Marian Smith unknown unknown Daniel Hay(e) circa 1884 near Tampa; Ohio "Daniel Hay and Marian Smith had a daughter, Josephine, 1n 1884. Josephine was my grandmother.
Note that the spelling of Daniel's last name is the same as that of Abraham Lincoln's private secretary during his Presidency. That Hay came from Illinois.
Marian Smith was an Indian of unknown tribal affiliation.
Josephine was twice married and by her first husband, produced a son, William Meredith ( Marriot ).
"" Wild Bill "" Meredith,as he was known, owned property in Florida; a parcel in the Gomez Grant which is located near Hobe Sound. He ran a garage, junk yard and bus stop on A1A during the late 30's and early 40's, which featured a Seminole Indian Village headed by Billy Tiger, or Tiger Billy. This working relationship may lead one to conclude that Marian Smith may have been part, or full-blooded, Seminole.
The Hay family had a farm in Lake County, Ohio.
Josephine's second marriage was to Henry Thomas Phare of Cleveland Heights, Ohio in 1908. This union produced my mother, Alma Louise Phare, in 1916.
Anyone with information about Marian Smith ( DOB, tribal affiliation, date and/or place of her death ) will have my gratitude for such information." "William F, H. Blevins" wblevins36@juno.com
