Some records say 1905, due to the way births were often reported late during that time. She was one of 11 children. She went to school in Amsterdam, Ohio until @ 9th grade. She lived at Fairmont Children's home in Stark County after her mother died with a brother and sister. They had three daughters: Ida, Ophelia, and Nellie. Ophelia married Lee Westbrook in 1907. He left and Ophelia died about 1914. Mary Elizabeth and George raised their two granddaughters - Almira and Loretta.
On the 1900 census, George, Mary, Ida, Ophelia, Nellie were listed.
On the 1910 census, George, Mary, Ophelia and Nellie were listed.
On the 1920 census, George, Mary, Almira and Loretta were listed.

From there, they appear in the 1920 census in Bristol, Rhode Island, then in The Bronx in the 1930 Federal census and 1931 City Directory. We do not know from which Pennsylvania Silvis family she descends and that identity is what I hope to accomplish in my research. The 1850 Pennsylvania, Jefferson County, Eldred Twp, Federal Census enumerates five Silvis families. Catherine is not a child among them as she had married Sinton Paine (b. 1830) of Brookville, Pennyslvania, bef or abt 1850, the couples's first child Luiza having been born there in 1851. We have a fairly clear picture as to the subsquent migration history of Catherine and Sinton upon leaving Brookville in the late 1860's for Tennessee, residing there for a year before moving westward to Howard County, Kansas and then to Oregon City, Oregon in 1882.
