Caroline B. Zitlau 1894 Russian Poland Edward John Tews 1914 Michigan "Caroline left her husband with six small children
on a farm near Gladwin, Michigan and went to live
in Flint, Michigan with her sister's family,
Augusta Hollitz in 1927. There Caroline gave
birth to her 7th child, a daughter named Eleanor.
While in Flint she worked as an ironer at the
Palace Hand Laundry and Cleaners owned by Benjamine
Silverstein. Accoring to the Flint City Directory
Caroline no longer lived with her sister in 1928.
Family rumor says that she went to the state of
New York with her employer. No one ever knew the
name of the town. However, Benjamine Silverstein
is listed in the Flint City Directory until 1930.
It is also believed that Caroline took all of the
birth certificates of her children: Hedwig, Elsie,
Elmer, Herman, Clarence and Ervin.
Any clues would be most appreciated. " Susan McCutcheon jmccutch@execpc.com

Tamar/Tamma McGriff 1870 Florida Jessie McGriff 1882 "Havana/Quincy and Vero Beach, Florida" "The only thing I've been able to find out or on my great grandmother Tamar (sometimes seen spelled as Tamma) McGriff is that she and my great grandfather were listed in the 1900 Census in Leon Co., Florida as age 30 and he was listed as age 39. The following children were also listed:
" "Walter, age 18
" "James, age 16
" "Jessie, age 11 (my grandfather)
" "Mamie, age 9
" "Mieler, age 6 (we know the spelling as Milo)
" "Augusta, Age 4
" "Tena, age 1

There was also great Uncles, Gus, Turner (1884), who were were probably living outside of the household.

Grgrandma Tamar shows up again in the 1935 Census for Indian River Co. (Vero Beach), Florida but does not show who were in the household, although there were a number of other McGriff's noted. She died in 1939, although Florida records don't show a death record for her which may mean she did not die in Florida or it could mean that it just wasn't recorded. Since I've been on the hunt for the ancestors over the last 5 years, I've found out that she was either part American Indian and have said full blooded Indian. This came as complete news to me as my father had never mentioned our family members connected to Native Americans.

If anyone connects to any of the above names please contact me.

Melody McGriff

....may the ancestors continue to guide and make our paths clear in uncovering their and our family history.

She was married in New York and died after 1808, supposedly in Ticonderoga, Essex Co. I think she may have been related to Phineas Hammond of Halfmoon, Saratoga Co., New York, who later moved to Vermont.
