Elsira Magers 1827 Edmonson County Kentucky William Patterson 1852 Warren County Illinois Elsira Magers or Majors was born in Edmonson County Kentucky, daughter of Thomas and Polly (Keltner) Majors. She married William Patterson (son of John and Jane Patterson) in Kentucky, then they moved to Warren County, Illinois about 1858-59. She had three children by the 1860 Warren County Illinois, Berwick Township, census: Eliza J. age 5, James age 2, John T. age 1. William Patterson was killed in a boiler explosion in Berwick Township at the Bond Sawmill while he and Elza Magers (Elsira's brother)were making skids for a sled, in January 1862. I have lost Elsira after this date and have been unable to track whether she married again or what happened to her. In a book Early Days at Greenbush, about Warren Co., Illinois, her name is given as Sarah Magers, but her given name was actually Elsira and she appears as Elsira Patterson in the 1860 census, as mentioned. What happened to Elsira and her children after January 1862? I believe she may have been pregnant when William was killed, so may have had four children late 1862 or early 1863. Her closest neighbors in the census were Mary Meadows and children, and Jacob Osborn, a brother-in-law. Any help is appreciated. Mona Sarratt Knight MonaNAriz@AOL.com
